Umpiring Overview Introduction to Umpiring Umpiring Level 1 Umpiring Level 1A Scoring Overview Scoring Level 1 Application Form

Scoring - Level 1

For individuals wishing to take the first step on the qualification ladder and learning how to score in detail, we run the ECB ACO Level 1 Scorer course. It is not necessary to have attended an Introduction to Scoring course to take Level 1.

Level 1 deals with the fundamentals of scoring, covering the ten key areas of the scoresheet as well as the Laws that pertain to scoring. The course is suitable for anyone, at any age, and assumes no prior experience nor knowledge of the Laws. The course fee covers copies of all the presentations shown and also includes an edition of "Tom Smith's Cricket Umpiring and Scoring", which contains not only the Laws but diagrammatic and textual examples of their interpretation and administration. The course fee also provides a year's membership of both ECB ACO and West Surrey ACU&S; membership of ECB ACO provides insurance cover for scorers travelling to and officiating at cricket matches.

At the completion of the course, students will be fully equipped for their first season in the scorebox. There is an optional Assessment, and those securing a pass become accredited ECB Level 1 Scorers.

(The course is also available by correspondence direct from ECB ACO: click here for a correspondence course application form.)
